Good morning and happy Monday! Welcome to another episode of the This is What it Takes Podcast. Today we’re talking about Letting go of what’s not working.
Let’s just start with the fact that it does not matter where you come from or what you’ve been through in your life if you want to have something bigger and better. The only way it does actually matter is if you reconcile with the facts: this happened to me, it’s okay, and I’m learning from it so I can use it to help others.
Getting through the hardest things
I don’t say that lightly - I know some of you have gone through so many hard things in your life. I know what it means to be passed around from person to person in foster care. I know what it means to be molested as a child, to be beaten and left behind by family members who were supposed to protect and love me, to be turned out and rejected by adults when I needed a place to sleep as a child, letting me go off...
If you're feeling stuck in your business or you've come to a plateau with your goals or your dreams, you're going to want to listen to this.
Today I'm bringing you Katie Phillips, my seasoned-entrepreneur Aussie-born pal who lives in England with her husband and child. She came into my life a few years ago as I was just trying to figure out my own life, going through a divorce, as a newly single mother. I had an idea to do a summit. I didn't have a business yet, but I wanted to throw something together for women going through divorce because where were our people? I called Katie in to my world and we have been friends ever since.
What I love about Katie
Katie is such a natural empath, healer, and teacher. She loves what she does, and she's always looking for ways to be there for women in such creative ways. She went through some awful times in her life, which, in my opinion, makes a woman so strong and such a great person to teach about recovering from adversity, really...
Gosh, the older I get, the more I realize that we all go through some hard stuff, don't we? I mean, all of us do. I used to think that it was just me and that I had to hide so much of who I was to be accepted by other people.
The couple that I interviewed for this week's episode have gone through so much stuff on their own and then came together in a way that makes sense to me. They figured it out, THEN they met and they really have pulled it all together in their business and their relationship. I know they're still figuring it out, haha, but they're on this path to helping people that is beautiful to me. They run a couple of really cool businesses (links below) and are travelling the country as I type this and running their business from their computers. So cool.
We talk about:
**Warning: this episode has explicit language.
This is one of those really raw, really amazing conversations with two people who have done their best to find themselves, root themselves in who they are becoming and desperately trying to make a break from a life they were taught to live in a certain way that made this little family implode. They've pulled it all together. And don't you just love a story where people, against the odds, can pull it all together and grow stronger for it?
My new friends Katie and Andrew May, hosts of the awesome Allegory & Elm podcast have opened up to talk with me about the affair that rocked their entire world, the loss of a dearly loved one, the 2 businesses that they are running successfully, and raising two kids and a podcast baby and how they keep it all together.
How lucky am I that I got to interview this incredible woman who has a great story and who has really fought tooth and nail for the level of income she's earning today.
A little about Kim:
Kim Trathen is an international business and marketing coach who helps female entrepreneurs learn how to get more clients online! She launched her own business while working in corporate and raising her 3 crazy boys with her amazing husband and their 2 huskies. Kim understands what it's like to work around the clock on a business that isn't making money or feel like with every business "win" there is an equal setback in life. But, she persevered and learned exactly how to grow a successful business. Kim is passionate about teaching other women how to scale their businesses and hit their goals!
What got her here
Have you ever worked in corporate and then decided that you just couldn't take it anymore (holds hand up) so you had to leave? So many of us have been there: working a job in the...
Welcome back to the What it Takes Podcast and happy Monday. It’s the beginning of the week and I am thrilled to be back here with you on this beautiful day. I’ve always negated the idea of a plan B. I don’t like the idea of a cop out or an easier way lurking behind some corner, pretending to be a life raft, but really is a way of saying “it’s okay if my dream doesn’t work out, I’ll always have this other thing.” Having a back up plan just gives you a reason to say that if it doesn’t work out, it’s because you never really wanted it anyway. And I really should have prefaced that with the fact that our dreams change often, and something you wanted 15 years ago doesn’t have to be something you really want now or you can’t change your dream at the drop of a hat, if that’s what you want to do. But pick something and see it through.
Pick one thing and see it through

My guest today:
Justin is a former college and professional athlete, two time cancer survivor, winner of the Jimmy V courage award, a coach under Brendon Burchard’s Growth Coaching Program, a current life coach, and entrepreneur.
When I first met Justin, I was facing a crossroads in my business and in my life. I was ready to take my audience from divorce to what's possible after divorce, but I wasn't sure how. And in my personal life, I was ready to move in with my fiancé, four years after leaving a really crappy marriage of 18 years, and I was a little nervous. I mean, I had done the work, I had really dug into my spirituality, felt the pain, writhed in it, actually, and wasn't sure how I was going to come out the other end. When my divorce came through last October, I was moved by how much I just didn't care anymore. It was weird - the thing I had wanted for so long had finally happened and I was just ... over it, I guess. Anyway, Justin came into my life when...
Happy Monday and welcome back to the What it Takes Podcast. I am thrilled to have you join me this morning as we start your week with some thoughts and some joy and some intentions for what you want to accomplish.
This week's episode
This week’s episode is all about the stories we tell ourselves. For example, the story I used to tell myself was that I wasn’t good enough for real love, that because of my old life and the things that I went through with foster care and not having a home for many, many years meant that I was defective some how. It didn’t help that I was surrounding myself with all the wrong people who would really stick it to me that I wasn’t good enough by not treating me properly, but we’ll get into why it’s important to surround yourself with the right people in a second.
The ways our behaviour controls our reality
The stories that I was broken led to all kinds of poor behaviour where I just wasn’t treating...
Good morning! Okay this interview is going to knock your socks off. Cameron Arsenault from Bold Entrepreneurship is bringing it all today as he teaches us not only what it takes to do some amazing marketing, but he is also teaching us how to stand out in our respective niches.
What should we be asking ourselves?
I asked him what he thought about the things we should be asking ourselves and he straight up starts with positioning in the marketplace. What are you really great at already, how can you combine a few things that make you stand out and what are you going to show the outside world? He gets into amazing detail about this and I love how open he is.
How do we keep clients interested?
We talked about the ways we can keep customers interested in what we're talking about. We all know how lonely it can be sending our voices out into the world without knowing for sure how we are being received, if anyone's listening and most of all, if we're making an impact. He gives us some...
Good morning sisters. Welcome to the What it Takes Podcast and I am your host Tanya-Marie Dube.
Let's start with taking a deep breath. Now, there is something I want to share with you. How many times have you decided that you weren’t good enough or strong enough or intelligent enough to pursue something that you want? How many times have you cloaked what you truly want in something so that it’s kind-of what you want but not really but it sort of feels like something close to what you want? Or how about this: I’ll just do what I’m doing for now and when I make more money, I’ll do something else? When I’m happier, I’ll pivot. When I hit a certain age, then I’ll do this big thing that will change my life forever.
Why do we do this?
I’ve been sitting with myself for a long time on this subject. You see when I was in foster care, I was deeply connected to Catholicism. I went to a Catholic school and I was baptized and I was the lead...
